Hello Information Technology 10 Course Developers!
Here is a Wiki to post our ideas for the course!
Just click 'Edit Text' near the bottom of this or any linked page - edit or add to the text and then hit 'save' just above the text box.
Post thoughts about format here:
- Video introduction to course and each topic or assignment
- Captivate style tutorial for more detail of topic or assignment - if student wishes
- Communicating with other students or assigned leader of group
- Online tutorials using Elluminate - if one or more students request it
- Regular online Elluminate meetings to help develop sense of community
(Jordan):
I just read an article about online course styles and which ones work best. I like the approach of a learner-centric model. Here is an insert from the article and the link to the full article below it:
" Learner-centric design
Rather than focusing on “How can I present all the content to the learner”, a learner-centered design begins with the question, “What must the learner be able to do upon completion of the training, and what challenges will they face along the way?” Exercises are then created that place the learner in realistic situations so that they can more easily relate to the content, and so that they are more likely to recall mistakes and avoid these mistakes in real-life situations."

(Jordan): Keely and I met with Rob Plaxton (info tech teacher in the district) and got some great suggestions on format and introducing a web tool:
The steps of introduction of every new web tool could follow this type of format:
1) Introduction of web tool using Articulate video (with support Audio clips)
2) Students get a chance to interact with the tool
3) Students Evaluate sample items created with the tool (Elluminate session to establish criteria for effective use of the tool)
4) Students create a personalized presentation with the tool.
Post Questions, concerns etc. about live video presentations that we can ask the Cisco Boardwalk implementation team:
- (doug)is size and quality of video good enough with the encoder SD 23 purchased?
- (doug)what are the interaction capabilities between teacher and online learners?
- (doug)ease of recording and posting live event for future viewing
- (doug)possibilities of having a visual of online learners using webcams
- (doug)capacity - how many can log on during live video production?
- (doug)how much would it cost to go to a High Definition encoder?
- (doug)Can a smart board have a direct feed to the encoder and still have the video feed connected so students could see both?
- (doug)Is the audio and video to the encoder separate?
- (keely) Will software need to be installed on the user computers, or can it be downloaded and installed quickly each time, like Elluminate?
- (keely) Will students be able to ask questions verbally using headsets or a central mic, or will it all be done through chat?
- (keely) What level of support is offered for troubleshooting problems?
Post thoughts about online learner essentials here:
- Basic online navigation skills (browser familiarity, basic online terms)
- downloading and uploading to designated spots
- Learn Elluminate, Moodle and Articulate from a user point of view
- (Kari says) adaptability and flexibility - a willingness to attempt using Web 2.0 tools

Post thoughts about online presenter skills here:
- understanding basic language and software applications
- Learn to incorporate video and images into presentations
- Learn several presentation applications
(Jordan): I believe the above is a good summary of skills about online presenting. Presenters must also understand how to evaluate the efficiency of their presentation. This includes: not using graphics for the sake of having graphic, ensuring all links are working/functional and readability (is the presentation easy to follow?).
- Also important is that the skills above are transferable. Can the student apply these skills in multiple presentations scenarios? My thoughts :)
Post concerns here:
- We try to do too much
- We get too complicated for lower level learners - can our at-risk students do this?
- We don't offer enough structure and guidance even though we want them to become self-learners to a degree (Kari thinks if we offer too much structure, we may lose the learning that comes with figuring things out on their own)
